Major Body Work Before/After pics

I'm interested in seeing just how far some people have gone to bring smashed cars back to some level of respectability.

I don't do body work, so I've always avoided cars that needed it when looking for something for myself or a flip. But, the cars I dig (at least the Hondas) are all around 20 years old and the majority of them have been hit, at least once.

Work done to 1992-1995 Civics are especially interesting to me, as it seems that once they get smacked in the front they never have that new look again. The alignment of the headlights, hood, corner lenses, fender, and bumper never seem to line up perfectly.

I'd love to see some before and after pics of cars that have been wrecked and put back to like new, or near new condition along with some pics of the work being done and a description of what all had to be done.

When you say they never look the same (hit in front) it's due to the shop getti g it done as quick as possible to collect their $$.
If it were an actual enthusiast it would look 10x better.

Interesting thread though, I'd like to see what pops up.

Crazy88 08-05-2014 08:45 PM

I'm sure that's the case most of the time.

I've owned (I use that term loosely) about 25 Civics of the 92-95 flavor. The alignment of front end parts have varied a lot. The only ones I've seen that were near perfect had never been hit as far as I could tell (all OEM body parts, original paint, etc.). As time goes on, I see fewer and fewer that look right. Hell, I see EGs featured in magazines and lined up at major car shows that look like shit to me. I see all-out builds that look like the headlight or corner lens is falling out. Or they look like you could slip a pencil between the headlight and bumper.

My main point of this thread is to motivate me, and others, to take on some of the uglier cars for sale out there. To show that these beaters can be reincarnated.

i understand your pain. the 92-95 variety has a been a staple of mine as well. the horrible fitting front ends are due to imo people not taking the time to change the core support after it has been tweeked and just bolting random parts on saying all done. it all comes down to time and money :doobie:

NSXs are a special challenge, but the removable rear panels sure help.

Yep

I don't have many pics of when I was sideswiped by the F450 Hot Air Balloon truck, but to fix that I had to replace the door, pass. side front fender, reshap the headlight bucket, and straighten the popup headlight linkages.

Major Body Work Before/After pics

Can you guys provide the info on who completed the job?
Looking for someone to do a complete paint job and minor bodywork on my miata.

Obviously cray and Paul already mentioned their own work :)

An example of an EG front that is about as close to perfect as I can find. Notice how the corner lens fits the fender perfectly, the line between corner lens and headlight is tight and even, the lower-inner corner of the headlights fits the curve of the bumper (doesn't look pushed in or pushed out), and the bumper is tight to the bottom of the headlights? I know this is a JDM example, but I know I've seen US cars with the original lights that looked this good.

This is what I can almost never find these days.

I wish Honda would do what the domestic companies have done with their muscle cars and come out with a retro style Civic that looks like an updated EG.

The gap between hood and bumper is smaller on driver side. Also fender gaps are not even

LS-S DA9 08-06-2014 10:44 PM

I totally agree. I deal with this daily. And I am one picky ass motherfucker on gaps. If shit doesn't sit right I cant and won't give up till it does. Multiple trams and other measurements later its nice and I'm happy enough to let it leave my work bay.

dudeinpinkfit 08-07-2014 02:53 PM

I should just go through my wife's work and take before and after pics a lot of cars go through there completely messed up and the insurance company still fixes them.

LS-S DA9 08-08-2014 12:02 AM

there are a lot of variables in that, worth, salvage price, and which parts(oem,aftermarket/used) and what shop(labor rates and quality) fixes it.

Crazy88 08-08-2014 09:40 PM

Not a mark on the truck (that I can see). Gotta love trucks.

Or is that not the vehicle that hit you?

theAngryMarmot 08-08-2014 10:03 PM

He is who hit me. While I was stopped at a light.
