What they probably use is a universal control to unlock it like in cars that have the oem keyless entry....they probably get a control "universal" and keep pressing the control till it picks up the code to unlock it...

Looks like a RF scanner of some sort.... wouldnt take much to assemble something like that as long as you have the right know how...

My guess is its something to do with the power lock on the passenger side of imports. It didn't work on the ford or caddy and it doesn't look like it does much more than open a door. Its just a quiter smash and grab. Maybe the coding on the passenger side is universal so its just a matter of sending the correct code.
