Honda Challenge National Championships - Laguna Seca

A few of the AZ guys getting some love in the coverage!

Awesome, thanks for sharing. For those of us not in the know, which were the locals?

White EG hatch ( not on here)

Blue CRX #913 (Tucson guy, can't remember if he's on here or not)

Blue EG #469 (me and my buddy Merv)

Arizona guys ran hard. Traditionally the Cali guys always end up smoking everyone. Every year for the past 4 years we (AZ guys) get a little closer. This was the first year that we actually gave them a good fight.

Our car was in 3rd for awhile until my buddy went in too hot into one of the corners (~95mph), when flying off course and beached the car in the sand trap for the last half of the race. doh!

Socal guys took 1st and 2nd. The white EG from AZ took 3rd. The other guy (blue CRX) had a rough day, he went in too far on one of the berms and blew up his RPF1, so he DNF'd also.

The guy that they showed who crashed into the tire wall, was kicking everyone's ass. He had a 40 second lead (2 mile track....1:45 per lap = he was ahead by close to one mile...crazy!) over the next closest guy, before he snapped his upright in half. He was pretty bummed since he pretty much had the win in the bag. I had never seen anyone just snap a front spindle before. :icon_eek:

Whats it take to get on that track? Do they do regular de classes or is it higher up classes only?

Most weekends, a car that's 94 decibels or less (at least while you're going by the sound measurement station at the top of the hill right before the corkscrew), they actually got one of the higher sound limit weekends for Nationals. Our db limit was 105.

NASA ran there once last year and HPDE + race.

They have other local clubs that offer hpde events there pretty regularly.
