04 VP Coupe (column, engine code, warranty, etc) questions...

Ok... couldn't find the answers to these questions...

1. My dash doesn't include a tach (ridiculous for a 5spd), an d i'm interested in getting an externally mounted tach. CorsportUSA has one that mounts on a 02-05 Si steering column with "no installation reqrd"... Would this fit seamlessly onto my 04 VP coupe also or is the steering column different?

2. I can't for the life of me find the engine code for my car (e.g. B16, K20... or whatever crappy one i know it is). I know i'm setting myself up for "it's a POS1" cracks but i'm just interested to know...

3. If I want to do work on this thing myself, am I going to void my four year warranty? In your opinion, should I just buy out of it if possible now and pay it off my loan?

maybe these should be separate threads (i'm new... let me know if that's a good idea) but hopefully someone has model specific knowledge...

Thanks to all serious replies!!

thanks for the help... i just reviewed my warranty contract and apparently there's a shitload of stipulations...bastards. looks like i'll need to wait for a while or get it approved.

i appreciate it though...

1) The dash is different, not sure how the technology works though.

2) d17a1 (non-vtec) or d17a2 (vtec). If you hav no tach, I'm willing to bet it's a d17a1

3) If a tach requires no installation, then no, you won't void anything.

Yeah it is the D17A1 (thank you guys for clearing that up)

Here's a pic of the gauge pod:

It looks like it just slips right over the stock panel, and is extremely similar to the top of my model. I already tried to contact CorSport and they haven't gotten back to me. I guess i'll just hound the hell out of them until they respond...

damn VP... your gauge cluster is insane. The only problem with that one is it has two gauge pods and i only will need one. i don't want an empty space or to have to modify it, if avoidable. the only other option would be to do a single pillar pod, which i wouldn't mind.

i swapped for a civic hybrid cluster

SE-Rious 02-20-2009 01:25 PM

I had a 2004 VP as well, and swapped to a cluster from a 2004 LX.
I had to do some re-wiring, but there's thread on civic forums about how to do the rewire of the connnectors. (there's only 2 connectors) turned out really nice afterward.

You can find the cluster on ebay, make sure it's for the same year LX model.
(EX has different pinouts and takes more work)
Also make sure if your car is a manual tranny, that you get one from a manual tranny car.
