CD5 with plexiglass roof???

Does anybody know if this can even be done??? I was thinking if you remove the sheet metal and just put the sheet of thick plexi down and bolt it down and paint where the support beams are so you dont see the beams, and you can use the same stuff they use to seal the windshield... I mean it all makes sense that it can be done but i feel like its going to be more work than i am imagining.

I just think that it would be really cool to have a panoramic sunroof on a CD5... you can tint the glass so its not to hot and it would just be something different...

Let me know what you guys think... i am going to go home and see if it would be worth the time or anything...

I think you should do it and let us know how it turns out. It wouldnt be hard, I mean, cutting, bolting, and sealing. Sounds simple!

Well considering the car would be a giant floppy penis afterwards (structurally speaking - you need a strong roof, for the structure of the car.)

Not to mention since you got rid of a major structural element the "Plexiglas" would absorb the flex I don't think it would ever be "sealed" nor would it hold up against stress cracks, the heat, and the abuse.

So no, bad idea.

But hey, go for it.

Anything can be done if you have money to spend. The roof skin is removeable. You'd have to remove the skin, reinforce the structure with some braces going across the pillars at the front, middle, and rear. If you remove your headliner and look at the supports on your stock roof skin you'll see what I am referring to.

Then you'd need a thick plexi/lexan composite. The smart car has something similar, its cheesy, almost like what the inner windows on a passenger airplane are constructed of.

Its doable, but if you have to ask the question.. then I wouldn't suggest trying to accomplish this by yourself...
