STI or EVOIX?
so which one is a better car? STI or EVOIX? which one is the easiest and cheapest to add alot more hp? which one is worth the money?
|
evo ix, handle better, mods easier/cheaper, better engine
|
evo...out of the two the evo is the only one in the 8's...and the IX's have dope cams for stockers
|
btw, the hardest thing for me to say....ever
|
i love the evo, but everyone i know who owns one wants an Sti. Why? rear diff and transmission/clutch issues.
|
ive always heard that its harder to get hp outa the suby motor then the evo
|
that is what i have seen. the subie engines are a bit more picky/fragile.
|
The evo ix has no such issues. I havent seen anyone bust a diff yet on the IX and the stock clutch last fine with my 35R and stock turbo pulling 1.70 60fts.
|
My friends IX is on its second tranny rebuild and 3rd clutch.
|
Sorry to say your friend doesn't know how to drive. Tell him to get an auto.
The best engineered transmission in the world isn't going to save itself from somebody mis-shifting/grinding gears or somebody who doesn't know how to properly use a clutch. |
Hmm, pretty weird how these guys running 12's-13's are blowing trannys when theres an evo running 8s at 160+mph on 100% stock one and god knows how many on running 9s and 10s.
Also, lets clarify.. when you guys are saying they are going through these trannys, what is the reason? Gears shattering, or just grinding shifts? If its grinding shifts, its caused by the operator, not the tranny itself. All it takes is a good couple mis-shifts to fuck over the syncros. |
He knows how to drive just fine... When gears start grinding like mad and when the car won't stay in gear within a few hundred miles of being driven off the lot, something is wrong...
Also, what are your 1/4 mile times and trap speeds? |
91mph in the 1/8th, 114mph in the 1/4 due to the short ass gearing on stock turbo, 12.1 in 100 degree heat.
installed gt35r, got it tuned, then sold it. never ran it at the track for fear of the clutch going out launching 450+awhp but 11.0-11.5 at over 125mph+ would be my guess. No tranny or clutch issues at all during the time. |
My friends 8 was 400+whp stock turbo and he went through one stock clutch in 16K miles... He ran a 12.2 in the 320whp range.

evo will give you more hp for your money, sti you pretty much have to stock pile your parts and install them all at once so that you wont be having to get a reflash after every bolt on you throw at it. if you want something that looks good along with daily comfort id say the sti (04-05 my preference). if you want all out hp then id say the evo....downside of the evo is that it looks like a lancer minus the intercooler, big ass wing, brembos and awd thats my .02
chargespeed FTW |
I <3 both.
If I got the EVO, I'd build it for track duty. If I got the STI, I'd build it to be a street whore. |

to each his own...

Ditto. Great minds think alike, Simon.

very informative posts
i personally would like to own an sti, its mainly personal preference tho, i trust Subaru over Mitsubishi. |
make a poll

There are a lot of people having these issues with the evos, but none of them have anything to do with the car itself. Its due to tha fact that people DONT KNOW HOW TO LUANCH A AWD CAR. They launch the shit like they are in some FAF movie then complain when their clutch goes out at 10k.
As far as HP, the evo is hands down the better of the 2 in that department. The STi's from what i have read are basically a WRX with a bigger turbo as far as the motor goes. so its much closer to being topped out to the ammount of HP it can hold at stock spec. Where as the evo is built to hold the 300hp and its the base starting point. throw a gt35 on it (arround 3500) and your looking at roughly 450-500 HP. I've tossed and turned about getting a evo, they are great to drive under 75mph but up in the top end the 16g really suffers with the AWD and drivetrain power loss. |
Im for the Suby!
|
evo 4 sure they r sick in everyway
|
Suby FTW!
|
i'm just really partial to suby's IDK why.
|
x2
|
The Suby will be by FAR more reliable, has a lower center of gravity (flat four boxer engine) and relies on less boost to make its 293 hp and 293 lb. of torque (The base Subaru 2.5 boxer engine has slightly more displacement and the base 2.5 makes 173 hp). Overall, both are great cars (and btw, this discussion seems to come up every month or so,) so most would lucky to have either, yada yada yada. Go out and test drive both if you are serious, otherwise visit any Subaru, EVO, or boosted AWD forum and read this debate played out literally thousands of times. Both are great cars, but I would take the STI over the EVO hands down.
 |
well thanks you guys for your input.. and to you guys who simply said "yea go subby!!" or "evo all the way" thanks for nothing because i didnt ask for any opinions, im looking for examples, statistics, or general knowlege of the cars. so you guys who actually said meaningful stuff thanks. im really leaning towards sti. i just really dont know that much about subarus =/
