Anyone done a TITLE ONLY transfer at the DMV lately?
Rumor is going around on another forum that the DMV is no longer allowing title transfers without registration.. which is a real butthole.
Last time I bought a project car about a year ago I got a title just fine... I'm planning on picking up a non-running car and want to make sure I can get the title same day with all the shady shit people pull nowdays. Anyone care to chime in? |
You need registration AND emissions before you can receive a title
|
I was dreading hearing that. That's beyond retarded.
There has to be a way to get a title for an inoperable vehicle, considering the guys at 5 star sell them off by the boatload every few weeks. I'll just have to find it... |
New rule? |
Yes, you need to take out a permit and take it trough emissions. After passing emissions, you will receive registration and the title. I think its a new rule that started in September...
|
You must transfer the title in your name with 15 business days.
I did not have to register my car when I transfered the title to my name. I simply told them the car does not run and it will take me a few months to get it running. I would call or go to the DMV to check, as this was last August when I bought the car. As long as the seller signed and notorized the title, you should be fine. I did not see anything on their site about this new process change. |
nope you need to get plates in order to get a title, if you take it to emissions and it fails you will not even be able to get a title even if you try and register it out of the county. point of the story if you buy a car that does not pass emissions, you get a 30 day permit and you cant make it pass emissions, you are stuck with the car unless you part it out!
|
Also what I hear you have to take it threw class one inspections? Idk if that's true I'm trying to verify that

The best solution to this problem is :
GO IN THE DMV AND ASK. I have never understood why people get on here (of all places...) to ask questions like this. 95% of the answers you get are either : 1. Wrong 2. Not understood by those posting 3. By people who have never set foot in a DMV and don't actually do things like register/title a vehicle. The only thing more stupid than asking DMV advice on here, is asking legal issue questions. There, I just saved you a ton of reading, wondering, and effort. |
What I enjoy:
Long walks on the beach, Call of Duty, Sex. What I don't enjoy: 45 minute wait at the DMV to speak to a representative of the director to ask the question, hour plus call time waits to call the DMV and speak to someone, and 10 day waiting period for written letters. There, I saved you from having to think about why someone would ask this question on a forum. |
Really? I have never had to wait more than 10 minutes to talk to the "front desk" person at the DMV that can tell you what you need to know. The last time I was at the DMV for a title change, registration, etc - I was there for less than 30 minutes on a Tuesday. Still doesn't change the fact asking a question like this is a exercise in futility. You best bet, regardless of wait time is to actually ask the people who KNOW the answer for a fact. There, I saved you from getting and believing 3,435 wrong/incomplete/stupid answers. |
The front desk person is pretty clueless when it comes to these kind of matters.
Getting to someone who knows actual policy at the DMV is in itself like pulling teeth. I'm on it, but getting a clear, written statement out of any bureaucrat takes time and persistence. I was just hoping there was some way people are finding around it in the meantime. |
Then tough titty if u don't want to wait at the fuckin mvd why did u make this thread should one of us waste our life to go wait for u so u can get ur Tittle pathetic bitch....

Last time I went I got tags plates and transfer Tittle and got a drivers license since I misplaced mine and was in and out in 15min
|
Lol
|
Well said. Where can I subscribe to your newsletter?
|
The DMV where I usually end up is quite helpful, the desk person knows the processes (Rose Garden and 23rd Ave.)
Maybe you need to find a different DMV. |
Worth a shot.
Last time I tried I just got some eye rolling while she said "take a number and ask when you're called". |
You're a fucking badass!
Bullshit. Less than 10 minutes on the phone with dmv this morning asking about a truck my mom just bought and I found out that you DO need emissions to transfer title. Standing in line like people are saying just to ask a question is pretty retarded. Call them and ask. |
Depends on when the last test was done if they tested it here in az.
Op- Could always call/walk in a 3rd party dmv and ask... |
I got a written response to my letter from the DMV.
You can still title a car without emissions/registration but it follows a different process now. |
what process is that?
im on the same boat as you with this integra i bought |
traded my db8 that I couldn't get to pass emissions with no problems... Just a few month ago too just cant register it to drive ... Bought like 90 day temps tho... 3rd party DMV <<<
|
What's emissions? Lol

No lies my friend I went in a Friday at 10am I had left work early cause of no more over time...so I I killed 2 birds with one stone went in told what I was there for filled paper work took pic while I was waiting got called for transfer Tittle by the time I got my tags and plate my id was done |
Damn dude, very nice. While Paul is pretty right about azht+advice=lolz, you handled this thread like a boss. Well done. Hope to see you in on-topic sometime. |
Double post.
|
Bump cause I was just at the dmv and asked this question.
I asked the lady, "what if someone bought a project car that's not running, how would they transfer the title with no emissions?" And she said that the car will have to be brought down there so they can do an inspection to make sure it actually is a non running vehicle. |
fuck i just bought a project car thats not running, but where i live they dont require emissions so does that mean i can transfer the title over into my name without having to trailer it down to the dmv?
|
Just did a title only transfer earlier in the week for a civic...but im in tucson
