ls bottom end with gsr pistons and rods

so my lsvtec started ticking today assuming its the pistons. first i thought it might have been the valves so we adjusted them back to where there supposed to be (pr-3 head) its starts to get louder at 3k rpm but then slowly goes away. checkng the lifters on the weekend when i have time
my question being would it be possible to use gsr rods and pistons on the ls bottom end . as of now its a stock b18b1 bottom end with a b16a2 head pushing 10psi . any help would be apriciated

no. you would need the crank too. gsr rods are longer than LS rods, and I'm pretty sure you'd have piston to head contact with that combo.

you can do this but you would also need to use a gsr crank.

Could be your loss motion assemblies. They do collapse and tick rather loudly. They are in the head.

I would also say check lma's, the ones in my head are pretty damn loud

savg_buneh 02-13-2013 04:45 PM

how can i check these?

S!K TEG 02-13-2013 05:27 PM

there is no real way to check them, you can replace them though

Perfect reference^ I couldn't remember where I saw that before

savg_buneh 02-16-2013 08:46 PM

thanks for the reference . changed the lmas to the new oem spring type . still clicking so were gonna gut her to see whats the problem .

Sounds like you have a rod knock. If it gets louder as you rev then you may have spun a rod bearing. What were you doing when it started? Reving high? Maybe missed a gear?

savg_buneh 02-21-2013 07:59 AM

Down shifted to avoid collision in the rain

B16-Integra 02-21-2013 02:14 PM

If the noise started happening after you did that I would think rod knock too. Do you remember how high you revved it?

1990db1 02-22-2013 05:00 AM

Same as the others sounds like rod knock. And if it is rod knocm you might need a new crank. iirc, the rod journals have a coating on the crank and spun bearings tend to trash them. Even if you have it machined I wouldnt trust it.

went from 5th gear 5000 or 6000ish rpm to 4th then bounced the needle b16 tranny for the loose

taintschwacker 02-22-2013 04:13 PM

5-6k, b16 trans, you were pushing past 90mph in the rain. Not smart man....

HeikDiesel 02-25-2013 09:32 AM

yo dawg i spinz fourf in da rainz

savg_buneh 02-26-2013 11:53 AM

Don't believe it was 90 maybe 65ishso it may have 4th gear but regardless yes stupid of me . also am update it is rod nock we took her apart this weekend and cylinder 3 bearing is shit

taintschwacker 02-26-2013 01:25 PM

Did it scuff the journal on the crank?

J240sx 02-27-2013 08:22 PM

Glad you got if figured out.

So picked up a Gsr long block for cheap and am in the process of putting it back together. Just waiting on my bearings and gasket to come in . I did the compression calculator and its putting me at 10:3:1 compression but the guy at bbn said it be 9:5. Was wondering if I did something wrong I'll be using a b18c bottom end everything and a pr3 head on a .040 cometic head gasket on 10 lbs .
