Drifting

Do we have any drifters here? I am very interested in drifting but I don't know anyone personally who does it.

g2integy 06-24-2011 01:45 PM

I drift my DA , almost ready for a tire sponsors !

The God Damn Batman 06-24-2011 01:45 PM

o i c

Then who is this drifter you speak of that I may call namless?

nelsmar 06-24-2011 01:48 PM

check out azdriven.com. They have quite a few active drifters on there.

Honda only makes one RWD car and due to the electronic steering assist and cost its not a very popular drift car. So you aren't going to find too many people who drift on a honda forum.

bseries1320 06-24-2011 01:53 PM

if i told you,id have to kill you

aXez 06-24-2011 08:21 PM

Ok thanks!

Wagonmaster 06-24-2011 09:27 PM

Yes. Well, sort of. What do you want to know?
Also, check out AZ240sx.org.

Ive drifted the Evo....

Once.

That was fun.

DarkAngel 06-24-2011 10:18 PM

Ive drifted my 78 Ranchero....... now thats something thats very uncommon. And yes only once......

The President 06-25-2011 01:16 AM

short wheel base with snap oversteer, and a weak differential don't help either. :(

would love to see a legit S2k setup for drift though.

Dedspool Superior Tuned 06-25-2011 01:29 AM

I will leave this here........... :)

taketurns 06-25-2011 01:51 AM

I think its more because of the wheel base.

nelsmar 06-25-2011 08:31 AM

Its shorter... but only about 100mm shorter than an S14.

S2000: 2400 mm
S13: 2474 mm
S14: 2525 mm
S15: 2525 mm

Source:

I don't drift but i have no idea how much of a difference 74mm is on drifting?

regardless no one really drifts an S2000 except was it RSR? I think they had a red & white S2000 they used to drift.

Bill Cosby 06-25-2011 09:55 AM

And aem

nelsmar 06-25-2011 10:07 AM

I didn't know AEM had a drift car

nelsmar 06-25-2011 10:49 AM

Ended up looking it up after that, the only videos i saw were at the atlanta drift event, im guessing they stopped racing it after that? lol

Atomic-Orange-Turbo-Sloth 06-25-2011 01:24 PM

Nelsmar drifted around Papago park while i held the AK out the top bitches

no but really i did it a bit when i had my 240, its fun but just hard to find places to do it that are safe (IE no cars, people, lightpoles... ouch) and just tears shit up so bad.

Wagonmaster 06-25-2011 05:25 PM

The problem with the S2K is the drive by wire steering, it just doesn't react correctly for drifting. I guess some early S2K were manual rack steering, which I think is what AEM and RSR used. It really has nothing to do with vehicle wheelbase. You see BMWs and Miatas all the time, for example.

nelsmar 06-25-2011 05:53 PM

The drive by wire is o 06-09 which is only about 20% of the production in the US. In 06 sales decreased dramatically and only a tad short of 14,000 s2000s were sold out of high 60k sold from 99-10

So saying for the first 7 years and 80% of prodi tion people didnt like dbw for drifting is a tad of a stretch. Also note the dbw is not the same as a civic, i have ab 06 and its pretty responsive

nelsmar 06-25-2011 05:56 PM

Also not 100% sure but i dont recall s2000 ever coming without eps. That was one of the prodict features honda boasted for release. I have heard of people using rx7 manual rock though.

But to keep things on topic the op was just looking for people that do drift, not whicj cars are best.

xUNDEADxCIVICx 06-25-2011 06:34 PM

all in all, in my opinion at least, all the older jdm cars were best for drifting, ie: ae86; fc; fd; evo; old gtr and skyline; but my all time favorite is still the s13 hatch. sure you can go with an s14 and have more power newer looks and what not, but something bout hatches just feels tighter and better when it comes to weight, speed, and maneuverability at high speeds. hell, if honda had made a rwd or awd ef hatch off the line i would be the happiest kid on earth, but that aint the case :P

but as nelsmar said, back to topic, there are a few kids here and there that drift. i know kenny out here in queen creek does it in his s14 coupe sr20. but if you're just getting into it, dont start putting money into your car even, until you have ALOT of money to put into everything you will have to put it down on. tires, events, performance, tires, tires, and more tires. and any damage that you will more than likely get while doing any "drifting." these are all things i was told and went over myself before i gave up on drifting and decided to go RR instead. plus i get to go faster and do more daring stuff in RR :D

aXez 06-25-2011 06:41 PM

Not entirely sure what RR is, but thanks, I am actually still debating as I haven't done anything really in the way of drifting (unless you count putting my friends camaro sideways through the 202 curve onto the 60 >.>') and its been a very interesting thing for me to follow, I'm curious where people drift in AZ, like what tracks since doing it on a city street seems slightly reckless and dangerous.

taketurns 06-25-2011 06:43 PM

Firebird. I don't know how you plan on getting into drifting with $9.00/hr and a baby on the way though. Just sayin.

xUNDEADxCIVICx 06-25-2011 06:57 PM

oh shit son, be careful with that shit. thats the spot i got pulled over doin 110mph. i was damn lucky the cop was nice and only gave me a misdemeanor. anyways though, RR id road racing aka circuit racing. you've prolly seen ravi's posts about it here and there since thats what he does and actually got me into it. just go here and check it out
it will give you the satisfaction you crave and it does take alot more skill to be able to do RR perfectly than it does to pull off a decent drift, and costs less in the long run. either way, you should be worried about either if you have a kid on the way as was previously stated. if thats true, forget about your car altogether for the next 3 years and focus on your family, you'll thank me in the end if you do this. I made all the wrong decisions when it came to my car and my family and ruined any shred of love my ex and i had for each other and still do to this day. so really, when you have have family settled, your kid is at least 2 years old, your wife is still around, and you have a 3-4bdrm house(no apartments dont count), and you have a secure career with benefits, retirement plan, 401k, etc. THEN you can think about doing all this stuff. following this will save you alot of money and heartache in the end :)

aXez 06-25-2011 09:03 PM

Oh I know, I don't even own a car right now, I have 2 SUVs and a little pickup and I'm looking into getting rid of 2 of them to get the wife and baby a good safe full size sedan to drive in. :)

I'm working on the career thing right now, turned in my resume at a couple of fab shops hoping to get in as an apprentice doing fabrication or upholstery so i can get out of the car washing business lol

Just asking about drifting since I really want to see it live, instead of on youtube. I don't plan to do any racing of my own until my baby girl is in school at least, I'm not about to risk her childhood for an adrenaline rush, shes my world and I'd do anything for her.

crx3 06-25-2011 10:44 PM

I think the best drift car is a V8 mustang. Those cars drift even when you don't want them to.

Here is a very clean Iacocca Mustang drifting at the 1:15 mark:
