Need Help Today Please. . .

I need to borrow a 10point 17mm socket from someone.

I'm trying to put in my rear lca's on my 02 civic. I cannot find anyone around who sells this socket to remove the bolts. Even the dealership mechanics said they drill them out and replace them with new bolts. I found a website to buy one, and will do this as a last resort. I just really want to put these in. If anyone will let me borrow the socket for an hour or 2. Or I will buy it from you if you like.

Please help me.

why not just drill it out like the dealership said to? seems like searching for this mystical tool will be more of a pain in the ass then just drilling it out.

Napa carries these you have to ask for it
I've bought one from here so therefore I know :)

Gather some spare metal, and forge your own?

advert 02-10-2012 10:52 AM

how hard is it to get to? can you use a pipe wrench to get it off and replace the bolts after. I can cut out a wrench on my cnc...

Broskiballa 02-10-2012 10:54 AM

10 point? or 12 point? If 10 point, no real way to explain it but racecar.

kerosinek 02-10-2012 10:57 AM

Drill it out dude. Go buy new bolts.

wickedfx 02-10-2012 11:15 AM

I called napa, and they said they don't carry any such thing.

I don't have tools to drill out the bolts let alone buy new ones after paying the dealership to do it for me.

It is for sure a 10 point head as I have bought a 12 point socket with no success. Also my 6 point sockets do not work either.

BART if you have one already can I borrow it?

C.R.A.Y. 02-10-2012 11:17 AM

I've never even heard of a 10 point socket. Why not just use those serrated sockets for rounded bolts?

failedabortion 02-10-2012 11:35 AM

I have 8 point point sockets but no 10...Just use new bolts

advert ftw

hope for AZHT mankind!

Broskiballa 02-10-2012 11:43 AM

Word! Serrated sockets work well. Or Hammer an old socket on and use a breakbar to break them off. Hopefully you don't have to drill them out. Takes way long...

Titanium>carbon> all other bits.

Your thread about that came to mind when I read this

C.R.A.Y. 02-10-2012 12:03 PM

Just fyi if you cant get it off with a 6 point 99% of the time that bolt is seized with rust and that bolt is going to break

The President 02-10-2012 12:49 PM

we have a 3d printer here at work. it was expensive as fuck and everything you "print" with it is useless in a real world application. it's strictly for solid modeling.

Dead Bird 02-10-2012 12:53 PM

When you order LCA's from Skunk2, they come with that socket.

I owned one at one time. No idea where it is now.

actually, I may have it somewhere. lemme check.

wickedfx 02-10-2012 01:48 PM

I hope those dumb bolts do not snap. This civic has been nothing but problems since I bought it. I'm trying to give her love, but it's getting very difficult.

Fix.it.again.Tony 02-10-2012 01:51 PM

you might be using the wrong material..

many other vids like it too where they use it in real world application

I think it would be badass to rebuild a human skeleton

Civicious 02-10-2012 01:54 PM

snapping the bolt can happen. they did my suspension at arrowhead honda and snapped that lca bolt. had to wait 2 days for part and re-installation. at no cost :)

The President 02-10-2012 02:28 PM

ours is smaller. regardless, those wrenches are not something you'd see in a real world application. if they were that strong, then people would just make production units out of the cheap plastic material you see in the video and not out of hardened steel.

Broskiballa 02-10-2012 03:01 PM

after 10-20 bolts, she gives in on the love.

I have broken sooooooooo many bolts with my build. Use anti seize lube, for all bushings and bolts on re-assemble.

Also, liquid wrench works wonders. I soak it for a few hours on difficult bolts. If they look like they'll break, i will rain on them with lube first.

ienk 02-10-2012 07:47 PM

You made that????? Were have you been all my life!

wickedfx 02-10-2012 09:37 PM

Going to pick up the wrench tomorrow. I'll let you guys know if it works.
